This roadhouse has been in operation for over 167 years. In 2018, after the property had been put up for sale once again, the Portola Valley community became rightfully worried about its fate. In a joint purchase by three local PV families and a partnership with Greg St Claire and the Avenir Restaurant Group it has been restored for generations to come. The entire group grew up in the area, has deep ties to the community, Stanford and most importantly all grew up coming to Zotts. The Historic Tavern seats 50 with another 250 seats in the open air beer garden. Read more here.

what is the space like?

Alpine Inn is located along the beautiful Los Trancos Creek. The old historic tavern seats 50 with 12 rotating beers on tap, 6 wines on tap, 5 rotating specialty cocktails and a good selection of Bourbon and Beer. There is an outdoor bar and beer garden that seats 250. Add in a 1942 Dodge Farm truck equipped with a wood fired pizza oven and a lang smoker from Macon Georgia and the party is on.

what are the vegetarian / vegan options?

We currently have limited vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menu items due to a lack of cooking space and the risk for cross contamination. We intend to produce food of the highest quality and integrity. While we evaluate new menu options and systems, we will consider including more vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options within our abilities to produce these items with integrity and optimal satisfaction for our guests.

We are a casual first come first serve beer garden – no reservations required or taken.

Large Parties

Can we reserve an area for large groups ? Soon – but not right now. Rather than being closed the whole summer waiting for our power upgrades from PG&E (currently we have 1/4 of the power needed for our size) we decided to reopen with the tiny historic kitchen. We added a mobile pizza truck and a smoker but it still is no where close to what we need to service a beer garden as big as the Alpine Inn.

We have a phase 2 plan for a real kitchen and the ability to do parties. As we work through the permit process and get some estimates on timing we will update the website. We apologize that we can’t book parties just yet.

Can we reserve the whole place ?

YES - we do allow for buyouts. The venue is perfect for large company events, weddings or special family celebrations. The tavern seats 50 & the beer garden seats 250. Please fill out the event request form “here” and we will get back to you shortly.

No outside food or beverage.

Birthday Cakes are the only things we allow – unfortunately we do not have room in our limited storage to hold (high risk of getting crushed by a keg) so plan accordingly. No other food or beverage is allowed.

what is the tv situation?

We have one 60” at the outdoor bar & two 75” in the beer garden! Inside the tavern we have three 60” & one 75”. Expect lots of 49ers, Warriors, Giants, Sharks, Stanford & Pac 12 football games on our TVs.

Can our band perform in the beer garden?

Local bands frequently play in our beer garden, please email us here if you are interested in setting something up. Note the music must be acoustic due to our noise ordinance.

Do you allow dogs?

Yes we love NICE dogs. They are allowed in the beer garden on leash at your table. You are responsible for your dogs behavior. Should your dog have an accident in the beer garden, make sure to clean it up.

Kids in the Beer Garden

We love kids. Please keep an eye on them, keep them out of the trees and the creek. The old historic beams in the creek are very old and super dangerous. Your kids are your responsibility and liability. Should they get hurt in the beer garden the Alpine Inn is not responsible.

Given the space and power constraints of the old historic tavern we were not able to install a commercial dishwasher in phase 1. Every item that our food and beverage is served on/in is full compostable or will be recycled. We also chose to focus on wine on tap that does not require bottles, labels and packaging - instead the keg being returned to the winery for refilling.

Can I call ahead to place an order for pickup?

Not yet - servicing our local community and patrons in the beer garden is our first priority. Coming soon…
