what is your parking like?

We encourage our guests to carpool, utilize ride share, horseback ride in, or bike in. We have multiple bike racks, & horse tie-ups available for our local guests. We strongly encourage carpooling. All guests who arrive in a full car with 4+ adults, will either receive front-row parking or a coupon for a free pitcher of beer if the front-row parking is full. Our parking lot is staffed with attendants that can help you safely park in our lot. In an effort to support our local neighbors, we ask that you be mindful of parking on public roads. Please do not park your vehicle in any way that blocks bikers and other vehicles’ safe passage. Cars parked over the white line on public roads can be ticketed and/or towed.

Do you take reservations or buyouts for large parties?

Our beer garden is completely first-come, first-serve. No reservations of any size are accepted. Our tables seat groups of eight. We do not allow guests to hold tables, once your first guest is seated, your 2-hour table time limit begins.

holiday Parties

We are not accepting requests for parties of any size. All tables are first-come, first-serve. UPDATED 1/2024.

Why do I see an extra charge for $35?

The $35 you may see is a temporary hold authorized by our system to verify your payment type. Your financial institution has placed the hold on the funds as a pre-authorization, which will show as a pending charge. The charge will never actually post to your account, and once your financial institution releases the hold the pending charge will disappear from your account activity.

BEER GARDEN TIME LIMIT

Parties dining in the beer garden are subject to a 2-hour time limit during peak times only. If your group would like to stay longer than 2-hours, the best times to join us are midday Tuesday-Thursday. Please note that we will only enforce the time limit when we absolutely have to, due to a long waitlist for patrons in the parking lot.

HOW DO I PLACE ORDERS FOR pickup?

We will only be accepting online orders. No over-the-phone orders. If our online link is open, we are taking orders. We may have to turn off our ordering system when our beer garden becomes full. For more information, please check out our pickup tab!

Do you allow dogs?

Yes, we love NICE dogs. They are allowed in the beer garden on a leash at your table. You are responsible for your dogs behavior. Should your dog have an accident in the beer garden, make sure to clean it up.

what is the space like?

Alpine Inn is located along the beautiful Los Trancos Creek. The old historic tavern seats 50 with 12 rotating beers on tap, 6 wines on tap, 5 rotating specialty cocktails, and a good selection of Bourbon and Beer. Our outdoor area has been reformatted to create a safe environment for our guests & staff. It is fully heated & there is now a partially covered area. In addition to our historic kitchen, we have brought in a 1942 Dodge Farm truck equipped with a wood-fired pizza oven and a lang smoker from Macon, Georgia.

what are the vegetarian/vegan options?

We currently have limited vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free menu items due to a lack of cooking space and the risk for cross-contamination. We intend to produce food of the highest quality and integrity. While we evaluate new menu options and systems, we will consider including more vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options within our abilities to produce these items with integrity and optimal satisfaction for our guests.

No outside food or beverage.

Birthday Cakes are the only things we allow – unfortunately, we do not have room in our limited storage to hold (high risk of getting crushed by a keg) so plan accordingly. No other food or beverage is allowed.

what is the tv situation?

We have four massive TVs in the beer garden & another four in the tavern. Expect lots of 49ers, Warriors, Giants, Sharks, Stanford & Pac 12 football games on our TVs.

Can our band perform in the beer garden?

We are not currently scheduling live entertainment. We will update our social media - @alpineinnpv when we are ready to start booking again.

History

This roadhouse has been in operation for over 167 years. In 2018, after the property had been put up for sale once again, the Portola Valley community became rightfully worried about its fate. In a joint purchase by three local PV families and a partnership with Greg St Claire and the Avenir Restaurant Group it has been restored for generations to come. The entire group grew up in the area, has deep ties to the community, Stanford, and most importantly all grew up coming to Zott’s. The Historic Tavern seats 50 with another 250 seats in the open-air beer garden. Read more here.

Kids in the Beer Garden

Your kids must stay seated at your table and be accompanied by an adult to the restrooms.

Recycling

Given the space and power constraints of the old historic tavern, we were not able to install a commercial dishwasher in phase 1. Every item that our food and beverage is served on/in is fully compostable or will be recycled. We also chose to focus on wine on tap that does not require bottles, labels, and packaging - instead, the keg is returned to the winery for refilling.
